Veneer can be produced with a saw, a veneer peeling machine or a slicing machine. Sawing provides high quality but is not very efficient. Therefore, a veneer peeling machine or a slicing machine is usually used. Both machines use a knife as a tool, but the veneer peeling machine rotates the tree trunk and peels the veneer out of the wood in the form of a continuous strip. Wood veneer was already used in ancient Egypt. At this time, it was produced using Saws. Nowadays, modern veneer peeling and slicing machines are used to ensure an optimal yield of high quality veneer. The sawing process is ineffective due to the width of the sawing blade, and a lot of wood is simply chipped off during this process. A veneer peeling and slicing machine is used for the processing of logs. The machine is made out of a stable base and a clamping device that can hold the entire log. The trunk is propelled and turns itself very quickly around its own axis. For the actual peeling process, a pressure bar is used that pushes a knife onto the entire width of the trunk to continuously peel off the veneer. The desired veneer strength is adjusted using the pressure bar. Other processes that produce a nicer veneer pattern are often used in the furniture industry. The most optimal process is, for example, in the production of the single layers of plywood, or for boards used for fruit and vegetable boxes. Particularly nice veneer is applied using the knife cutting technique. Using this method, the log is cut in half or in quarters. The thickness of the cut veneer can be between 0.5mm and 1mm.

The detailed process of a veneer peeling and slicing machine is as follows: logs are steamed in a steaming machine and afterwards sawn into the desired length; the peeling machine peels the veneer off the rotating log; the veneer is then cut using special knives; the finishing of the veneer is undertaken in a pulp drying line; and then they are sorted. A specific type of veneer is the bird?s eye maple.

The veneer peeling and slicing machine is used for fine surface coating or for the production of veneer for block boards used as face veneer and plywood. The processing of thin boards for packaging boxes can also be undertaken using this machine. Thereby, the veneer strength is manufactured to be between 0.5mm and 6mm. A predetermined peeling width is fitted for the required process. Special processes and equipment in the machines allow for the manufacturing of boards for fruit and vegetable boxes. A tool switching system and cool display are common. Deciduous trees (beech, oak, birch, cherry, ash and some conifers) are particularly suited for the manufacturing of peeled veneer. Peeled veneer is mainly used in the furniture industry, luxury car manufacturing industry, interior design, and by carpenters and joiners.
